Thanks Dave!

Now you mention it: I did notice a change in starting the engine because the starter motor "screamed" soon after the engine was running... Me need new starter :-0

What is "high detergent"? As in Shell Rotella?

Thanks again.

Regards,
Maurits

This will come down to personal preference... and a lot of opinions.

But me... I agree with the "hard break-in" procedure. You should be able to feel it when the rings have seated, both in driving, and when you listen to it starting. You will sense more resistance against the starter, and a more pronounced thumping from the exhaust.

Seating usually occurs by 1000 miles if you run it under varied loads and don't baby it. I would run a high detergent mineral (Rotella) based oil for the first 3000 miles, then switch to synthetic. I would suggest that you change it now (with the filter) just to insure that any residuals from the rebuild process are out of the system.

That's my opinion... and has always served me well.

Dave

Currently I'm running mineral 15W-40 oil during the break-in period and sceduled
my first oil / filter change after 1000 km.

Question:

A) Should I change oil and filters with new mineral oil untill the rings are
properly seated?
B) Should I switch to synthetic Mobil 1 15W-50 or is it too soon?

I've read 1000 km is not enough to seat the rings and switching to synth will
prolong the break-in period??

FYI: I'm breaking the engine in "hard".
Thanks again.

Maurits
