[urq] Resale regarding Stock VS "Replica"

Like people just said a few weeks ago, if you're gonna build a track monster maybe starting with a car that needs a lot of help is a good idea, rather than hack up a fully restored original car....which makes financial sense also probably. Either way doesn't make investment sense but there may be some moral high ground somewhere. That being said, I'm hoping to start my 20v conversion soon, as soon as it's too cold out to work on it, or right after I build a new heated garage. Hopefully I'll pull and redo the motor over the fall/winter and install it in the spring......i'm only 18 months behind on this project so far.

Do what makes _you_ happy. That's why you have the car. If having a super
clean never driven garage queen makes you happy - do it. If having a rattle
can'd 20Vt track monster makes you happy - do that. Whatever - that is all
that matters IMO.

Subject: [urq] Resale regarding Stock VS "Replica"
Hello All,
I have been tormenting myself back and forth on my 83 ur-q trying to decide
if keeping it mostly stock is the way to go (interior, exterior, with some
minor mods under the hood for better power & reliability) OR if I should
take the path I'd like to, and go weekend warrior track car with it (20vt,
caged, not much left stock, etc).
Now some would say the resale is only there for an unmolested car, which in
most cases I would say is correct, but after seeing several A2 rally
replicas hit the market for well over what even the most pristine of
unmolested Ur-q's are selling for really has me second guessing which path
to take on this project. Now, all in all resale really doesnt matter as I
plan to be buried in the car, and from that fact alone I should be able to
make up my mind and just do what I want... but theres something else....
this little thing called responsibility that is kicking me in the butt
telling me to not wreck the resale on the car making it in to what I want
apposed to what it used to be.
Insight appreciated, I just found it interesting that a replica of a rally
car would sell for double what a pristine perfect museum quality Ur-q would
go for...
