[urq] Clutch Slave Problem?

Or being such high mileage the clutch pedal simply wasn't pushed all that often....aka highway use.

The car was less than 200 000 km when this happened. Curiously, I've kept a
edal from a Coupe GT that was at least 345 000 km (from its odo) and the
ushings were still mostly intact as was the slave cylinder attaching point.
guess the urQ pedal is a lot more hard to depress, especially when old.

Yep, indeed, high-milers will surely have worn bushings at the pedal pivot
under the dash). Mine were a bit ovalized, but the main play came from
here the slave cylinder clevis is attached to the pedal. This hole was
nlarged to the point of being almost twice as long as when new. The
elltale for this problem, if the firewall is intact/repaired, is the fact
hat the adjuster on the slave cylinder will not be long enough to keep the
edal at 10mm from the brake pedal height. I had to create a new round hole
y welding and drilling to correct this situation.

Buschings for brake and clutch pedals : 2 for each pedal of 443 721 153A.
Clutch pedal itself, with 2 bushings and rubber pad : 857 721 315C.

Just an FYI.. I had a simular problem on my 84 at an autocross... Found
out ( Thanks to the guys on this forum ) to look for a crack on the
firewall... Sure enough the firewall was cracked and the clutch rod was
shifted .. Called 034 for one of their firewall URQ braces ( Installed )
still had a problem... Changed out the master ( Still have a problem ),
Changed the slave ( Oh what joy that was doing it in car )... Getting
better.. Wasnt until I posted up I had a soft pedal and someone mentioned
about the bushings in teh clutch pedal.. yep mine were worn... So bottom
line, check everything mentioned above before something else breaks... lol
