Hi Louis-Alain
No the blue quattro behind Hannu is not mine. I couldn't afford one in 1986.
They cost getting on for £30000 then and I had just bought my first house
(with a mortgage) which cost £20000. Puts it in to perspective eh? I did not
purchase my quattro until 2001. In 1986 I was driving my beloved Daimler V8
2.5L being a real cad about town. I believe the chap Hannu is chatting with
is Neil Corner - owner of the auto Union in the other pictures - but I might
be wrong.
The silver car behind them is a Morris Marina (called a Morris Ital in later
versions) - not a car the British Car industry was or should be proud of.

I have since found some more quattro pictures taken on the Rally Stage at a
Classic Event at Silverstone in about 2001 - when I get the time I'll scan
those as well and share them with you all. I'd forgotten all about them. I
must have some more 1985 RAC pictures somewhere but haven't found them yet.

That's all for now.
All the best
Keith

Thanks for taking the time to share this with us, Keith.

About the picture with Hannu siting on the bonnet of the red SportQ : isn't
the blue Quattro yours ?

And, bonus points, what is the silver car in the background ?

Louis-Alain

Evening all
In an idle moment I did a bit of sorting out in the Lloyd photo archive and
came across some pictures I took a long time ago that I thought you might
like to see so I scanned a few in.
The first few I took on London Road, Worcester on the night of the Safari
Park stage of the 1985 RAC Rally. I’m sure I must have some somewhere from
the stage itself because I remember seeing the Mteros and Porsche 911’s but
so far they have eluded me. The next few were taken at Shelsley Walsh Hill
Climb in 1986. It was 50 years since Hans Stuck raced the Auto Union twin
wheel hill climb car there and Audi arranged for Hannu Mikkola to take a
sport quattro up the hill and Neil Corner brought his 1939 Czech Grand Prix
Auto Union D-Type too. Hannu broke the hill record for a closed top car and
it stood for I think the next 20+years.
There is also a picture from the (I think 1985 or 1986) Motor show of the
Treser quattro. And lastly a couple of pictures from Prescott Hill Climb –
John Hanlons S1 and the Nick Mann Morris Minor – home built 3.5 Rover V8
with twin turbos. Awesome car, No idea what happened to it.
Hope you like them.
Regards
Keith
