Hello All:

I think I owned this particular car back in the very late 90's when it only had 60K or so miles on it while I was living in Bay City, MI.  The reason I say this is because of the MSD 6A ignition box and Nology Sparkplug wires.  I did this same mod to an '84 I owned, so I can't believe too many people who did this same exact modification to a rather rare '84 ur q.

This particular car is not a straight black car, as it is a very dark metallic gray actually.  This car is very special.  I bought this car from David Mathia in Traverse City, MI.  He had the car specially built from Keith Anderson in MN; he sold it to me because he was experiencing renal failure to some degree and could not drive it anymore.  The special thing about this car is that it does not have the typical 3.89 gearing in it; it has the 4.11 gears from a 4000 quattro, making it a fair bit quicker.  Before I moved away from MI, I sold it to Kent Anderson of Karr of MN and from there on out, it went to a new owner.

If this is the car I owned, I still have the receipts that Dave M. spent on the car while it was in Keith Anderson's care.  It was quite alot, somewhere in the range of $10,000 dollars; no expense was spared on this car, and it was a very fine example of a '84 ur q.  This particular car should have the flat front Cibie euro lights, which are very rare indeed.  This car also had a very nice tan interior with heated seats, rear window wiper arm, and 3 VDO gauges right above the ashtray.  The customary Keith Anderson mod of moving the vacuum operated diff switches to the lower dash right above one's right knee should be intact; specifically on this, I remember the  panel was pulling away from the dash so I installed four black hex head screws so the diff would not click from the vacuum actuated valve being part open.  I always wondered what happened to this car...  It had absolutely no rust when I owned it as I stored it during the winter and
only drove it in good weather, which is somewhat opposite of what a quattro was intended for.  In any case, this was a very fine car.

A little story about this car, I remember I was trying to diagnose a subtle whirring noise whenever I would turn left if I recall correctly.  I thought it was a wheel bearing so I took it to the only mechanic I trusted and he was located in Detroit.  He replaced the wheel bearing and the noise was still there!  Gads!  Soon after, I took it to a mechanic who owned an ur q in south end of Saginaw I seem to remember and he said, "Oh, this just means your power steering reservior is low on ATF."  I really felt dumb but I didn't tell him I spent a bunch of money a new wheel bearing!  Haa.

Wow, this brings back the memories!  Come to think of it, I still have a case of the small oil filters that was meant to protect the turbo!  Please feel free to e-mail me at: lucky_doggg7 at yahoo.com

Zoltan
Are you sure it's not 900933?  I have a black '84 900933 in the Registry I
maintain which my notes show was for sale on eBay in Feb '07 for a "Buy it
Now" price of $15,000.  My records show that it had been owned by someone in
Virginia until it showed up on eBay for sale by "Herman & Miller" for a
"BIN" price of $15K.

So my records (for 900933) said it had the following upgrades: unidentified
ECU chip, Euro wastegate spring, MSD ignition and Nology wires, H&R springs
and Koni Sport strut inserts, G-60 front calipers with Pagid pads,
cross-drilled rotors, smoked rear trim and tail lights, Blaupunkt stereo
with a Rubicon amp in the trunk, PIAA fog lights, 145,000 miles; noisy
turbo, A/C and cruise control working.
Needless to say, I have not seen the car nor verified any of the reported
upgrades.
HTH,
Bill
