I've always been confused about why the factory tire size for the 8" Ronals wasn't 
215/55-15, as it's within about 1-1/2 percent of the base 205/60-15.  Maybe they were rare 
in that size even 'back in the day.'
Bear in mind, too, that actual tire sizes vary from the theoretical values.  Maybe Audi 
chose a specific OE tire that was a closer real-world match to the 205/60.

The 215/50 is 23.46 od, while the 205/60 is 24.69 od. The gives 1.22 dia. larger for the 
205 but only .61 (~5/8 radius) difference. That is what I'm running for snows and haven't 
noticed too much speedo difference when I pass the roadside speed monitors.
As I stated in a different response the 215 size is getting to be hard to find.
