[urq] Bad starter?

I did the headlight relay job a few years ago and used 3 relays - one for
main beam and two for dip so that if I ever had relay failure I would always
have one light available (unless they all failed at once). I made my loom
using wiring from a donor car, took the feed from the alternator and used
50% brighter bulbs which with a full 12v light up half the county. To be
recommended. Re: Euro light brackets - people in the UK building Rally
replicas often want the early European/US spec quad lights and so have Euro
light brackets lying around unused.

I'm in the middle of a headlamp upgrade as we speak; have a pair of sloped
face Hellas, with a broken driver's side lens, that I'm trying to get UPSP
insurance to cover. Once it is covered, I'll then still need to source a
lens. I've also found a pair of Cibie flat faced lights that I might use
instead.

I have one pair of brackets, and plan to try to duplicate them in aluminum
or steel so both sets will have brackets. Let me know if anyone else needs
a set fabricated.

I also have a wiring harness as built by Blau back in the day. Uses three
relays, seems well built. I may be making a couple of knock offs if anyone
is interested in another one; might just sell off this Blau harness once I
have a pair made up.

I may also make a harness for the starter, but that is a bit harder at
present, since the motor isn't yet installed. I.e., I can make one up, but
won't be able to play with ideal wire lengths and location to place the
relay.

Chris

Found my original post from 2006 about this...not sure how it compares with
the factory-specified fix...anyway for what it's worth (and by
headlight-style, I mean Huw-Powell style; his guide to relaying headlights
can be applied to many other applications)

"I relayed mine headlight-style off the alternator using 12-gauge power
wire, 30-amp NO relay, 20-amp inline fuse, and the original power wire as
the signal"

I suggest this become standard upgrade for all urq's among others.
