Yeah you know these old cars require you to pull some things to get to
others....

Yeah I've been driving with a bad 4th gear synchro for the last year after
swapping in TWO bad used transmissions last summer - so I'm getting one
rebuilt - all new bearings, new synchros, seals, cryo the gears....figured
"while I was in there" I'd address the squeaky suspension, replace the rear
diff mount and seals, upgrade the brakes, add a rear sway bar....youknow -
just the usual stuff....

Wow Brandon, I didn't know you had to pull all that stuff to replace the
ignition switch........hope your suspension work pays off.  I may need to
redo some stuff.....i'm so sick of the h&r progressives, the roads where I
live and them don't get along well....

The dealer gave me 2 p/n's for my '84 (might also be same for '83) - I was
just going to pull mine out and see what number it is....but have been too
busy pulling the transmission, suspension, rear diff.....

I was going to take Mike's advice but the ETKA .pdf I have for the '83
models doesn't show a part # for the switch which i think is #14 on the
diagram 9_53_111-00.    Diagram diagram 9_53_111-10 shows a part # but that
is for the '84 and up cars.  Is 111 905 865L the switch for an early 83 vin
< 500.   After all the '84s had different wiring, or maybe the ETKA I have
lost the 2nd page giving part #s?    steve

ignition switch is one of the parts i would ONLY buy OEM from the dealer, 
(unless you don't mind doing repetitive replacements, possibly roadside from

your spare stash in the trunk)............opinions, everyone has one, that's

mine based on  35+ yrs daily experience working on vw-audi exclusively (not
at 
the dealer)..............m

Any experience with ignition switches -  Meyle vs. Uro manufacturers?

Autohaus AZ has the Uro brand part for $4.71
034 has the Meyle for about $28.50
