Actually her name is Pat too if I remember correctly - Patricia Lipp and I think she used to read the news or the weather forecast on a Munich radio station before her voice was recorded and synthesised.
With regard to a retro fit - Yes, UK cars did have the voice. All you need is a voice unit with the part number suffix "e" I believe. Phil Paynes excellent web pages will tell you more. I don;t believe any extra wiring will be needed, just a change of box (it's deep inside the centre console behind the diff lock switch etc.
Hope this helps and good luck (sorry I don't have a spare box but there will be loads out there unused because many people disconnected them because the voice announcing a fault usually made their wallets twitch in anticipation of a big bill!). I like it. It is "of the age"
