[urq] UrQ cams

Used to sell them back in the 1990's myself. Specifics buried deep in my library I'm sure, but the Shrick 10v cams came in 268, 272 and 276. IIRC, only the 272 was available for the solid lifter head. It's lift was 11mm on the intake, but it didn't work well with 02 sensor cars, created a lumpy idle as the frequency valve chased the I/E lobe overlap. I had one (hydraulic version) on my old RS2 87 5ktq wagon, and eventually took it out, in favor of the MCII turbo cam with a slightly lower valve lift, but much less overlap. The best cam for the WX IMO, was the stock euro cam, as it had more lift (and IIRC, less duration) than the WX. I ran one of these in my k24 20psi WX urq for quite a few years.

To answer your question: NO. IMO, it's not worthwhile to use them. Better performance comes from putting on the k24 and 91 200 20vt flywheel and clutch arrangement. Below 3k on the 272, gas mileage and torque suffered massively, so much so IME, it wasn't worth the high end trade off. I do remember too, some of the WX needing to do some clearancing on the shim buckets to run the 272.

HTH and my .02

Does anyone have any information about '270 Schrick' camshafts for WX engines
and whether
it is worthwhile to use them? Is there a current source for the Schrick or
another suitable improved
performance suitable camshaft? I remember that Ned once had some.
