[urq] fuel tanks?

Initial fit of the 4kq tank shows it can be made to work.  Slight differences to the urq tank:  doesn’t have the ½” braided line from the filler neck to the top of the tank.  Filler neck needs adjustment, probably back and down 2” each.  I think existing neck can be bent to fit.

Adds a few inches in size to the urq trunk as well.

Hmm, just did the 4kq tank test-fitment to Hackl's Pikes Peak urq.  Yes it's a smaller tank, and it did appear to be a good fitment.  Unfortunately on his urq, the rear shock tower bracing was already installed, so more fabrication would have been required to make it work in his car.  IIRC, when we did the measures the 4kq tank would be drop in for an urq including the mounting brackets and body gasket.  From 'measures' even the filler neck would work, but worst case you have that sleeved and rewelded.  A good option to consider if 24.7gal isn't necessary, but a good tank shop can clean and reseal the urq tank.  Call an indy motorcycle repair shop, and find out who they use, it's very common to the MC guys....

My car won't be a garage queen, original engine is gone and it will have a 3b 
conversion.  Much more of a fun car than a show car so a smaller fuel tank won't 
worry me.

1.  Professional boiling/cleaning/lining of existing tank.  Also need to braze 
on a new fuel return nipple to the bottom.
2.  Buy a used one.
3.  Install a used coupe or 4kq tank.  Anyone try this?  I understand the tank 
is smaller (18 vs 25 gallons??).
4.  Have one made (or modify an off the shelf to fit) in aluminum or stainless.

I'm currently leaning towards getting a 4kq tank, installing it, and getting the 
car running.  If so, I will keep the urq tank and try to clean it myself 
(degreaser, pressure wash, acid rinse or several, marine clean/metal ready 
treatment, POR fuel tank liner).

Anyone else tried a 4kq or coupe tank?

A friend of mine had a replacement tank made in aluminium by a small firm 
that makes tanks, intercoolers etc for the motorsport industry. Didn't cost 
too much and looks good too. You might find this the best route to take in 
the long run. I know that when mine begins to give trouble I'll get one 
made. Seem to recall it being about £300 but it won't ever need replacing.

Disregard if I'm emphasizing the obvious, but you may want to look into the 
various
materials kits and/or service providers who address those problems with an 
inert (epoxy?)
coating inside the cleaned-out-as-well-as-possible tank.  Possible sources 
might be
Eastwood, Hemmings advertisers, etc.
