I have used this with a great deal of success in a metal-to-metal, no-gasket situations:

I'm pretty sure it was originally developed as case sealant for air cooled Porsche engines as they do not use any gasketing in-between the case halves. It's spendy, but a little goes a long way and it works VERY well!
