[urq] urq Digest, Vol 100, Issue 10 - CF Hood

Hello All in ur q Land:

Back to the discussion topic on carbon fiber (CF) ur q hoods, a mostly Porsche tuner named GMG (Global Motorsports Group) located in a light indistrial park in the City of Santa Ana (SoCal) has a very nice CF ur q hood for sale.  The link is here: http://www.gmgracing.com/audi_aero.shtml  Scroll to the bottom of the website.

One of the Owners there, a fellah named Fabryce, is an ur q enthusiast like all of here on the boards.  He had a nice '84 he restored then later sold and his race shop also did what Dialynx does over in Great Britain, take ordinary Type 85 chassis, chops a foot or so out of the center and makes a Sport q out of it.  The car his shop fabricated used a V6 A6 turbo motor.  Lastly, the fellahs here on the board shouldn't worry about GMG's fab skills, they prepared Randy Pobst's winning 997 Porsche Cup car I think it was a few years ago.  Alright fellahs, drive safe and be careful out there...

FB chatted with Maskus a few minutes ago..  No real details yet, but ACNA called him to give him the news directly, presented to him as a collaboration between ACNA and Audi AG.  Sounds like he will just be present for the meet and greet type stuff, no exhibition ride up the hill or kicking Hackl out of his A2...  Might be a good draw for autographs and more urq's actually showing up in support of David's ride up the hill.  Given Audis history with PPIHC, I don't see any real chance of a bigger splash for Audi...

Gang,

I know that some years back there was a carbon fiber hood group buy gone
bad.  I don't know
much about it or what the landscape today looks like.  Does anyone have
recommended options,
if any, for carbon fiber Urq hoods these days?    I'm interested in
references to either the a factory
fit piece, or those sport replica shortened to suit the Urq front.

Thanks,
Eric

Don't go there.
Unless you are buying from a reputable company or can trade money for a
hood in person.
There have been 2 hood deals that went bad.

That GB with Automechanica in Chicago went very bad.  Of course not for
the people that actually got their hoods and not quite as bad for those
that just made the $500 down payment.  Unfortunately for me, I was next
in line to get a hood and made a full payment of $1500 when it all fell
apart.

Well said Mike

This is also a sore point with Mike Hopton.

This is the main reason that the molds are being made
?at a huge cost to Mike and Martin for the sport quattro kit without
asking for a single penny as a? down payment in advance.

We want to restore confidence in future? "group buy" situations.

Cheers,

Craig Cook.

Yeah... and I'm not even sure how the "line" was formed.  I was one of the very early guys in... put in $1500... about 10% of the total amount effectively stolen from us by Ed Kowbel (if spelled correctly).

I know of two sources in Europe, both of which have proven reputable.

Dialynx in Swindon and Michele Bonvin in Switzerland.
