Thanks for the welcome and all the many responses I got from list members since yesterday. I just came back from my visit with the car and I'm certainly on the fence. I'm waiting to hear back from the seller to see if there are the original Fuchs somewhere.
The car needs serious attention underneath and looks like it was used as intended from the original designers.
I'm happy to share info on the car as it does appear to be a Euro '82 car, albeit repainted. The car had been serviced at R&A applied arts in NJ in the 90's. Of course it shows quite the fair amount of work done to it but it needs much more than just mechanical at this point. Any more history on it would be great but I think I have enough to go on for now to make my decision.
I love the fact that people are trying to keep a complete list of these cars as they need to be tracked so that info can be shared and studied. I know we are trying to do something like that for 4k/CGT over at Quattroworld. Keep up the great posts as I'll be watching and maybe see you guys at the shows!

Welcome to the active group Matt! It is great to know that you've found sufficient value here so far ...
For an imported car this old I would doubt that there'd be much value in paying to get a CarFax ... maybe there is.
In preparation for this post I checked the urqregistry website ... which appears to be defunct. Over time the most useful registry I'm aware of is the one Bill Bremer maintains ... he has your VIN from your post and I expect he'll let you know if it is in his system. Unfortunately, the way Bill established his system, the information contained in it cannot be made more available publicly.
In my search I found some comments about the urq on a 911 registry, where they mentioned that the low import numbers and lack of interest at the time of the original sale will make the urq an "also ran" in terms of long term value. I have always held out hopes that it would not be the case ... but the one thing that we as a community cannot seem to do is to establish an active registry as a means of keeping the urq in people's minds. It may be true that there is a more active urq community in forum space ... I've never gotten accustomed to having to visit a forum to remain a part of the community ...
We talk about urq registry's every so often over time ... the link Blau had is long gone ... is ACNA doing anything along these lines? What should urq owners and fans be doing to make an urq registry a vibrant and long term tool?
Matt, I hope that your find is what you have been looking for ... I suspect an imported early car would make a good starting point ... and I hope that we'll be able to help you make the right decision!

Hello,
long time lurker here and big fan, and I've been in the hunt for a car and this one just happens to pop up through a friend locally.
I'm looking for history on the car as the ODO looks to be changed over to US version upon import and shows 53k miles.
It's an '82 Black on Black. Euro bumpers and H1/H4's, BBS wheels. VIN is WAUZZZ85ZCA900171. I have not done a carfax check yet. And looks to have been a NJ car at some point, does have some minor rust in the usual spots. If you would like to see pics please email me

Pleasure to be posting here for the first time!
-Matt
