The pre-filter is not really a filter - it has no filter element in it, just
a kind of weir to allow sediment to settle.

AFAICT Audi used an in line fuel filter commonly used on carbureted cars as

a prefilter. I'd visit a FLAPS and use whatever they have on the shelf.
Since it is before the pump it doesn't have to be rated for high pressure.

Audi used these filters for other similar tasks ... there was a TSB to
install then in the vacuum line to the HVAC to keep oil out of the valves
and switches on the turbo cars (for protection should the check valve fail).

What are folks using for a prepump filter these days now that the plastic
deal is unobtainable? Thanks.
