Hi everyone,
May 1982 was a big month for me.
I got my first job, a McDonald cook, that very month. On my first training
day, it was a Saturday afternoon, I had the opportunity to "take a break" in
the staff room after 2 hours of training. There, I switched on the TV set,
one of the CRT variety complete with a rotating knob to select the channel
and the volume. The image I saw on the screen made my heart stop : Gilles
Villeneuve had an accident, he was between life and death in an hospital. I
was 17, this was my first job, GV was my hero. Sad, sad day.
19 years later, on September 10th 2001, I bought that magnificent 1983 Mars
Red Audi Quattro, the first one I ever saw in my life. When I looked at the
VIN plate, the built date was 05/1982. At the moment, I didn't realized that
this was "THE" month. It's only last week, when I said to "Honey and the
Girls" (my own family) that my red sports car was 30 years old that they
made me realize the connection with GV's death.
I don't know the exact built day, but it's not important. Today, 30 years
after Gilles's death, 30 years after the Quattro left the assembly line, I
took her for a spin and I'm still in love.
That's what's important.
Salut Gilles !
And long(er) lives the Quattro !
