[urq] removing old fuel from an urq that's been sitting

Take a sample from the bottom, where the deposits would likely be. If rusty/cloudy, drain it and have the tank cleaned. If it looks normal, you may add a bottle of 104+ (octane booster) just to be sure it is still high-test. Drive the car smoothly, avoid high boost, and refill with premium.

If it's really only two years old you shouldn't have a problem. I have had LEGENDARY problems with tanks that were only partially full and left for eight to 12 years. At that point, strip out and clean the WHOLE system.

I appreciate everyone's responses. A couple people I have talked to including the owner of the car don't seem to be too concerned about running that fuel through the system. Personally I'm inclined not to. Thoughts?

That's the great thing about the jumpering trick - you can pull the jumper at any time to sort out problems.

If you drain from below, just make sure you have plenty of appropriate containers handy. I seem to recall draining mine some years ago and in preparation ran down the fuel till it showed 2 gallons. When I drained it, there was more than 5 gallons in it!

I did mine years ago and IIRC, the outlet tube at the bottom will empty it
just fine. It sits in a recess at the very bottom of the tank so if the car
is level, all the fuel will be removed. Unplug it after you siphoned the
majority of the fuel in the tank from the filler tube. Or run the fuel pump
for a few seconds...

I'm going to need to remove some fuel from an urquattro that's been
sitting for a while as well as installing a new fuel pump. Is siphoning an
issue on these cars? Any BTDT's short of dropping the tank? It's been
kept full of premium fuel but the gas is at least 2 years old. I'm on
digest so please email me direct when replying (as well as to the list)
Thanks
