[urq] Gas tank repair

Pull the urq tank from the car. The fuel line runs from the bottom driver's
side front of the tank to the small square sump. Pull the level sender and
shine a bright flashlight down towards the sump. There is a small slot,
probably a foot long by 1/2" wide. You might see the sock on the end of the
pipe through the slot. There are photos of a coupe GT tank here:

My tank has deposits basically clogging up the sump area so I may have to do
a similar cut it open then braze it closed again operation.
After cleaning and degreasing, most fire departments will use a combustible
gas meter to check to see if the tank is safe to cut and weld on. A good
welder won't touch it until he has that paper.

It should be sufficient to braze or solder a patch on a tank, shouldn't it?.
Less harsh than welding to thin metal of possibly already dubious integrity?

Gas fumes being sucked into a device that has a constant high voltage arc
seems like a bad idea. If you don't have access to nitrogen then fill it
with water and then empty. That will safely push out all the bad fumes. When
the water is emptied then the only thing that would enter is nice fresh air.
Then maybe use the vacuum to help dry it.

Looks good too.
