[urq] 1983 URQ cold air intake filter

And if you're after a more "racy" intake noise, turbo engines noises are
known to be of the wrong kind : hissing, whistling, sucking, etc... I drove
two urQ (a 10V and a 20V) that were converted to EFI and both had a cone
filter attached directly to the turbo intake. Engine noise was way too high
(and permanent!) and none sported the kind of noise we hear from race
engines, or even a lowly Honda VTEC...
And as Mike said, cold air intake they are not.
Both owners are looking for a more civilized solution now...
If you're really into more cold air : use the OEM aluminum airbox, and
modify it : create a bigger intake hole, and add some creative plumbing to
have it breathe real fresh air. But good luck : there is really no space
there, unless you remove the inboard headlight...

the factory airbox IS a cold air induction from under the headlight assembly
.......converting to some aftermarket crap will insure that it is then
picking up hot air from around the exhaust manifold and turbo area that is
only inches away......look closely at the factory system before secumbing to
the advertising hype of the aftermarket..................m

Subject: [urq] 1983 URQ cold air intake filter
Hi guys.
I am thinking of replacing the intake air-box with a cold air intake on my
1983 URQ. Does anyone have any suggestions: name of system, procedure,
etc., where to get one?? Thanks in advance.
Tony: 2008 A3, 1983 URQ.
