Welcome to the list!
Sorry to hear about your dad's health issues but glad you're planning on
bringing the urq back to health.
So far I have just put in fresh fuel, a new battery and refilled the cooling
system. The car runs OK but is a bit rough, I've only had it around the
block, but it seems to shift fine, the turbo seems to be producing power.
I would suggest a good fuel system cleaner like BG44K or at least Techron.
The fuel injectors could be pretty nasty after sitting as long as they have.
2. Fluids - I'm hearing 15-50 full syn in the crankcase, GL4
80-90W
(non syn) in the manual trans and front diff, GL5 90W in the rear diff.
I'm a skeptic about the sealed for life claim.
Rightfully skeptical about the sealed for life claim. I didn't think they
started that til the 90's but I certainly could be wrong. I would
additionally recommend finding the European car formula engine oils that are
A3/B4, VAG 502.00/505.00 rated.
3. Filters - does anyone have cross reference numbers for the oil
and air filters to WIX or other reputable common brands? Is the turbo
filter a normal oil filter?
I always recommend using German filters. Mann/Mahle seem to be good stuff.
I have also heard good about Wix.
4. There is a diaphragm and spring assembly bolted to the same
bracket as the throttle cable. One side goes to what appears to be vacuum,
the other side is an adjustable shaft that connects to the throttle body.
My guess is that this keeps revs up on sudden lift-off, maybe to keep the
turbo spooled up, or for smog. Anyway, it's broken, and I don't have a clue
what it's called or where to get one.
Sounds like the cruise control diaphragm.
5. Brake fluid - I run ATE blue in my Miata race car, any reason
this wouldn't work in the Quattro?
I don't see any reason why not but I'm sure someone with more experience
will chime in on this.
