All,

WR cars do not cut fuel they cut ignition, they don't have to worry about
the catalyst.
My WR was doing that with a intake temp sensor problem.. it sounded like an
F1 car going down the pits.. very cool.
So bypassing the FP relay did not solve your problem, no other way to work
around other than actually fixing the problem.

I certainly don't have the chops to contradict Phil, but the ignition ECU
has other options to cut the engine performance than fuel, I assume
ignition.  Has someone who has hard wired his FP in the past, I can tell you
it does not disable all causes of 4,000 RPM cut out.  (nor does hard wiring
the FP guarantee faster starts in all conditions!)
