Just called the local NAPA they no longer stock the 3278, NLA in any of
their Distribution Centers.
They are looking for whatever their suppliers have as a replacement, will
call me back!

BRAVO Patrick!

http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx/Fuel-Filter-Gold-/_
/R-FIL3278_0063492504

Still in stock at $7.49 USD/ea.

Anyone outside US need help getting one? Let me know if so in next day or so
and I'll see how many I can grab for interested parties. I may also check
with my local imports place (just out of loyalty to the small shops) but
it's great to know there is at least one solution.

Thanks for everyone's help!

-Jon

Just confirming this shows up at VAG NLA since '06 according to my local
import store. Assuming there is not a mistake on the NAPA website, I think
that is the only source left. Again - anyone who would like one let me know;
I'll probably call in the order today or tomorrow.

Incidentally; having flushed mine out a few times I can confirm there is no
true filter element here, just interior baffling. It is for settling before
the fuel pump and has not caused any flow issues for me at 2.5 bar even with
a good deal of sediment entrained. Nice for fuel tank interior debris if you
do not have one - there is a mounting bracket on my '85 just next to the
fuel pump.

HTH,
Jon
