[urq] 20V Wondering

I rather let the buyer do the research, last thing I need is him blaming me
for his issues with registration etc. etc.

If it is a Canadian model you should be able to drive it across the border
and register it in most states. I haven't looked up what states like
California would require ... as you must smog cars that are newer than 1974
here ... but, even here in California you could probably get a historical
significance plate with limited miles driven per year ...

I wouldn't expect the km speedo to be a problem any more ...

HI Stephen,

The car is still here. I had few semi-serious people looking into it, but
they are all scared of the importation procedures inot US, even though it is
a Canadian car.
It almost sold to Germany, however the buyer found out that the car would
never pass TUV unless all of the modifications/upgrades were removed and car
put back to stock.
Only once a car is 30 years old it can be certified to be classic (has to be
bone stock to get that status), and then it does not require regular TUV
inspection and then people can start to modify them.
This is why you can see all the rally tribute cars popping up based on 30
year old Ur-quattros.
I might try to sell it again in Germany in spring time, hoping to find
someone with a friendly TUV inspector.. ;)

It has been brutally cold up here..
The ice is thick enough but there is way too much snow and a regular pick up
stle plow can not manage to make the course.. we have to wait for the right
conditions.
Once a course is plowed it will be easier to maintain it for the rest of the
winter.
Here is a vid of myself from 2 years ago.. last year there was not enough
ice to make it a go.

To be honest, while you can import them to Canada, it would be cheaper to
buy one already built by someone here or build one yourself.

Have you looked at the prices for urqs in Europe lately?

There is a reason all the US ebay urqs get snatched up. Many of those are
not American anymore.

I'm not convinced it can be done. I think there are a few rules

involved, not just 25 years and you're in the clear. BTW - can we blame
Mercedes Benz for making it too expensive, not only for individuals wanting
old cars but for big manufactures to bring new cars into the USA? My
old brains cells make me think it was M-B that lobbied hardest to limit our
choices for the purpose of maxing their profits.

Just curious if anyone has considered, or is in the process of bringing in

a 20V urq to the US under the 25 year rule?
