[urq] tires and premature ageing

Now the question I have is: did Audi change the speedometer in '84+?

I didn't think they did, but instead thought the difference in tire circumference was tolerable.

But the reality remains, tire selection sucks for 15" wheels. And it won't improve.

It isn't any better in the 16" size I use to run, 225/45/16.

Selection is excellent for the ur-S4 size, 225/50/16, but I have no experience running that size on a urq.

Hi Lono,

Compared to the original '83 size which is 205/60 15, Tony is correct.
Tire size was year, not wheel size specific. Up to '83 205/60 15 and '84
and up 215/50 15.

60R15

So in reality your '83 speedometer should actually read faster with the
225/50 15.

Hope this helps.

I'm following this thread with interest, because sooner or later I will need
to replace the 225/50x15 Kuhmos that I have on 8J Ronals on my 83 Urq.

I was confused by Tony's comment. If the factory recommend size for the Urq
8J is 215/50x15 how can the 225/50x15 be undersized? If nothing else it
would be oversize. It does affect my speedometer to show a lower speed than
what I'm actually traveling at. Am I missing something?
