I keep noticing a whiff of petrol from my car. Most noticeable at the nearside rear wheel arch – the one nearest to the fuel pump. There is no sign of a leak at all. I mentioned it at it’s MOT test yesterday and the tester had a real good search and could find no evidence of a leak. This is also roughly where the tank vent pipe emerges (the pipe vents to atmosphere via the big grommet beneath the takn that also serves the feed and return to the tank. There is no charcoal fume trap or any other valve in this vent pipe. It simply vents direct form the top of the tank. Is it because the car is not doing any miles and so doesn’t have air passing around it so often that means I notice it more or is there something I cant see that is causing the smell? Should the vent pipe have a trap of some kind? Any recommendations? Anyone suffered the same and subsequently solves it? Will be interested in any suggestions/advice/guidance.
All the best
