[urq] Inappropriate backseat/battery contact, pragmatic front seat upgrades

For the front seats; the frame from your quattro can be switched into the 4kq leather. I.e., take the cover and foam off the 4000 seats, do the same to the urq seats, reassemble. I've mixed and matches several seat parts together this way. Hog rings hold it all together, and if you buy new pliers and hog rings it is pretty easy but time consuming.

I ended up mixing some 4kq, coupe, and urS6 seats together to make my set how I wanted them. Had to weld only to make the passenger seat also manual slide/tilt, mostly because I was using a VW seat base and needed to reverse the slides.

As for the burn, many batteries come now with a plastic guard that clips into place over the positive. Many batteries come with two small holes that the plastic bit clips into. You also see rubber socks over many positive cable connections, particularly in trucks like my Chevy. You should be able to fab something up pretty easily. Make sure that your battery is not too tall; there are metal frame pieces in the seat bottom after all. I suppose a plastic guard could be zip tied into place over the metal in the seat bottom as well.

I have a reached a juncture where I think the 79k ury 3B, which has experienced all of 21k miles in my 15 years of ownership while donning tons of brand new parts, will either have to pull its own weight as a driver with requisite final touches for safety/reliability, or go to another loving home now that the market seems to be improving.

Wrt safety, I need releasing front seats so folks can safely sit in the back - I have very nice 4qk black leather fronts (long story) which look the part wonderfully and I will keep, but preclude safe rear-riding. I understand there are a lot of takeoff Recaro options out there, but would love any exact examples of seat/fitment kits people have done.

Also, there is disturbing burn(!?) discoloration on the foam under the back seat over the battery. Not sure when/how this happened, and I think refining the wiring mess around the battery is in order anyway, but wondering if anyone has put heat/spark shielding material between the battery and the cushion material. Also, clever low-profile wiring bus options for re-arranging positive connections at the battery would be awesome if anyone had any recommendations.

Thanks again all!
-Jon
