[V6-12v] oil consumption and egr system and replacing
instrumentbulbs

My '92 100S has been consuming oil at the rate of 1 quart per 500 miles of
late, which concerns me. When I bought the car back in '96, it had 53k on
it, and used little or no oil between changes. It has slowly progressed to
the current state over the past 7 years. I have been using either Mobil 1 or
Castrol Syntec since ~60k, and always have used Mahle filters. My car does
not leak oil or burn it (that I can see), so your EGR cleanout is something
I'm going to try.
On the subject of the instrument cluster, there are 2 phillips screws that
hold the fascia piece in front of the cluster on. They are on either side of
the column, and are recessed a little bit on the underside of the fascia
piece. There is also a plastic rod piece at the far right side of the fascia
that pulls out of the dash once the two screws are removed and the left hand
side is pulled out a few inches. Once the fascia is off, the cluster is held
in place by 3 phillips screws, and after they are removed, the cluster can
be pulled out and wiring plugs removed. Make sure you have the steering
column lowered all the way and have it telescoped out to its farthest point.
Also, I generally remove the top black cover on the steering column to avoid
scratches, but you can also just cover it with a heavy cloth. Some of the
bulbs are accessible at this point, but others only can be accessed by
removing the back white plastic cover. HTH.
