[V6-12v] Razzin-frazzin' oil leak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just came back from my regular mechanic and we spent an hour under the car
and above examining the leak. We have confirmed that the leak is indeed
coming from the rear of the engine in the area of the rear main seal. He
pulled a cross section of the engine in All Data and we found that there are
actually 2 seals in this area. One is the rear main seal and the other is
the seal for the plate that the rear main seal attaches to which is bolted
to the block. The conclusion at this point is that either the rear main
seal was installed incorrectly and thus is still leaking or the seal around
the plate which the rear main is attached to is leaking. The mechanic who
replaced the tranny and other items in that area should have picked up on
this so my guess is that he damaged the rear main seal during installation.
Luckily for me I reported the leak to him the next day after getting my car
back so he cannot blame the resiliency of the seal should it be damaged when
he goes back in there.

I'm going away for a week but I will take this up with him when I get
back. I am not going to mention this seal to him until after the car is
apart in case he should feel to blame this seal to cover for his shoddy
workmanship and charge me another $1000 for the service.

I'll keep everyone posted as to the outcome.

I found my leaks to be in the two EGR? hoses that came off the rear of
the valve covers, turn 90° and enter into
the air intake system for vapor recovery. At idle, they weren't leaking
to speak of, but at speed, the oil was spraying
around hard enough under the valves to present a significant oil loss
through those hoses. Where the airbox at
the rear of the intake manifold seals was also awash with a bit of oil,
indicating that oil was leaving via it as well.
I haven't checked it closely since replacing all the seals (the car
doesn't get driven much with us being a motorcycle-centric
family these days), but the major oil loss is gone with the replacement
of those hoses.

Good Luck!
