The bomb was used on the vehicles with hydraulically assisted brakes.
It's meant to supply pressure for the brake booster in the event that
the power steering pump fails or the engine stalls.

The V16-12V cars have vacuum assisted brakes. Vacuum is present at the
intake manifold and there's a small vacuum reservoir somewhere to
provide vacuum should the engine stall.
