That might be it.  I've had trouble turning the key, and the
transmission-in-park interlock needs a little jiggling of the
shift lever before it will release the key. I've got that down
to a science -- move shift lever right (while in Park) to
release the key, move it left to park it.

How difficult is it to replace a switch?

How difficult is it to re-key the switch to use the existing
key?
