[V6-12v] How bad is it?? Front diff. problems on '95 90Q w/new
struts

Greetings,
I recently replaced the OE front struts in my '95 90Q with Bilsteins (quite a
difference!), which seemed to go fairly well once I got all the right tools on hand.
I tried to take care and support the A-arm by the ball joint while the strut tower
was out, but on one side it did manage to slip at one point and go to its extreme
travel. What stopped it was the half-shaft coming from the front differential I now
I fear I may have some problems there.
The CV joint at the wheel and everything that's physically attached to the strut
tower seem to be tight and in decent shape, but I get some lateral play (~ 1 1/2
inches) in the whole assembly when the car is jacked off the ground. It looks like
the loosness allowing that motion originates in the front diff. I'm going to look
in the Bentley before tearing anything apart, but I was wondering if there are any
BTDT folks can offer me advice as well. I'm bracing for some bad news, but hoping
that the outlook isn't too grim.
Thanks in advance,
Joel
