Hi Guys
Why is it you can look at things for hours , and after you ask someone see the answer right away !
I went back to the car and decided to get my dremmel on the rusted area around the clip. Sure enough under all that rust was a spring washer assembly being held in place by the clip. Sprayed lots of antirust solvent on it and started slowly working it until it was loose enough to pry off. Of course you need one hand to hold the cable , one hand to hold the pliers with the spring clip open , and one hand to actually pry it out with some type of screw driver. ( no wonder mechanic rates are so high .. they need two guys to do every job )
Anyway freeing that didn't help until I got my dremmel back on the spot i removed the spring clip from and found more rusted crevices. after cleaning that out and spraying a little more solvent I took two sets of vice grips, wiggled the steel re-enfoced end of the cable out of the "stop assembly"
Hope this helps someone else in a similar stuation ...... with those darn rear calipers... PS while caliper is off always service or inspect rear sliders.
