Not only in the V6-12v model line but in practically all of the older Audis.
Recently my son had to redo the ignition switch on his 87 5ktq. The switch
had been replaced about 3 months ago at a local shop, but the car had started
acting up again with the classic dead instrument panel and occassionally
dying car syndrome. After tearing the car apart to check for bad grounds,
possible shorts, and replacing the load reduction relay with no abatement to
the problem, my son replaced the ignition switch and the car hasn't hiccuped
since then. The switch he replaced wasn't cracked, but it had a little more
play in the key movement. He picked up the ignition switch from
autohausaz.com for $16 plus shipping.
