I'd double and triple check those wires, both trunk and door jamb.
Also, when you put it into reverse, the backup lights go on. The
wiring to the backup lights may be shorted, so the problem readily
appears when you shift into reverse. I'd check the backup light
switch (on the tranny?), too.
And, does you 90Q have a rear lighter? The Type 44 has a funky
problem with the rear cigarette lighter shorting out and causing
all sorts of weird behavior.
