[V6-12v] New there'd be a proble sooner than later!

  Lister's,

  First off I'd like to thank all who have welcomed
me! I see a few familiar names.
 But the first real problem has arose I gave the keys
to my wife!!! No really,
 she went for a drive & went to adjust the pass side
side mirror 
& as she describes it the IC gauges stopped working!!
The speedo, tach, coolant, oil temp, & battery volts
gauges stopped working. The OK symbol doesn't appear
along with any of the symbols that are supposed to
appear under it, along with the outside temp display.
 But when I put the headlights on the lights around
all the gauges works & the hazards & blinkers work.
 As you all have seen by my sign at the bottom of my
posts I've owned lots of Audis from different years &
have never seen such witchery! Anyone venture a guess
as to what to look for?

 Also I found the glove box manual & found that the
timing belt & such was done at 104k. So there is 60k
on the timing belt but I'm still going to pull the
cover to inspect the work.
 I'm going to get the paper manuals for this car ASAP.
