[V6-12v] Boot(Trunk) Lid Stuck Shut -- Help!

With the coming of the recent below freezing
temperatures in NW Ohio came a new problem with our
1995 90Q last night, this time in the boot (trunk)
lid latch mechanism.

When the car is parked, we keep the boot lid lock
in the vertical position so that the rear seats
will not fold down if the cabin of the car is broken into
(naturally).

Last evening was the first the car was outside when
the outside temperature got below freezing this season
(and the rear of the car was facing the wind).
When I went to open the boot lid, I don't recall having
any trouble moving the key CCW from vertical to horizontal,
but it may have stuck alittle moving past horizontal
to the "unlock" position.

The real trouble, however, came when I pushed the latch
button in to release the latch -- the button stayed in,
and the lid stayed latched.

I was able to use the key to coax the button back to the
"normal" position, and the electrics still seem to work
OK -- i.e., the power locks do what they're supposed to
do in the various positions of the boot lid lock.

I replaced the lock mechanism on this car a couple years
ago, and I've poked around the inside of the boot lid
(most recently to repair the port side cable bundle),
so I'm somewhat familiar with that vacinity of the
interior of the boot lid.

My question for the list, though, has to do with
"what next ?" -- how to get the boot lid open
if something's come undone (or worse, broken off)
between the lock "button" and the latch ?

We can still get into the boot from the back seat,
though I don't recall seeing any kind of "emergency
boot lid release" in that model year...
Another trick must be available -- I'm hoping soming
on the list can point us in the right direction.
