[V6-12v] Cruise control on a 1994 90S

Tom,

What generation car do you have? I don't know if yours is electronically
controlled or not. I've just cured the cruise control on my Mum's 'fly by
wire' Golf Mk.IV by replacing the clutch switch. This is a little electronic
push-in switch, that sits high up in front of the clutch pedal, which tells
the cruise control when the clutch is depressed. If the switch goes bad, the
cruise control 'thinks' the clutch is depressed and will not go into cruise.
This can also often cause some hesitation under acceleration, apparently.

The other culprit can be the little plastic 'switch end stop' which sits on
the pedal itself in front of the switch and presses it in slightly further.
If this breaks, the switch won't register as fully 'up' because those
switches, when you install them, rachet up initially to calibrate the start
limit they operate from. In fact if you need to replace the switch email
again and I'll give you step-by-step instructions, as I broke a switch
before I worked out what was going on (fortunately they're only £10).

A similar fault can be caused by the brake switch. If the brake switch
fails, you'll either get no brake lights or brake lights all the time, so
that one's easy to diagnose.

Just a couple of possibilities.

James
