[V6-12v] 'Clank' on changing gear after new clutch...

I'm experiencing a slight 'clank' (for want of a better description) on
clutch engagement, after installing a new clutch. It's particularly
noticeable when changing from N - 1st and from 1st - 2nd, especially when
going uphill. After that you don't really notice it. You only really hear
this with the windows down.
I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas. My instinct is that the new clutch,
being a bit 'sharper' on engagement, may have shown up a different problem
(e.g. the beginnings of wear in the U-joints, or CV joints, something in the
gearbox, etc.). You also get a little clunk when actually shifting the
gearlever, but this has been there for as long as I've had the car.
This isn't severe, but I'd like to catch any potential problems before they
become so.
Cheers,
James
