[V6-12v] Airbag light blinking for 30 sec, then solid on. What's up?

Tom,
We've had a similar problem on my Mum's Golf recently. It turned out to be
the 'igniter ring' which is like a little copper ring that makes contact as
you turn the wheel (at least this is my understanding). I left it to the
local garage who cleaned it (replacement is expensive) and now it seems to
have cleared up. If you have a decent independent shop you might try this
route first as it wasn't an expensive procedure.
Also, it should have thrown fault codes, so it would be worth checking those
first as it might point you elsewhere.
