[V6-12v] 96 A4Q 2.8 12V cats...

I would not recommend replacing it with a non-genuine cat. The front
downpipes and cats on the V6 also act as the front mufflers (Audi even list
a 'front muffler for models without catalytic converter' in their parts
system), and none of the aftermarket cats I've ever found do this. The
original downpipes and cat are double thickness walls (about 4 - 5 mm) and
the substrate is well padded in. The aftermarket ones are usually at most
1.2 - 1.5 mm) and tend not to be well packed. Not only does this increase
the likelihood of quicker failure due to thermal shock/ impact, but also if
you go down this route, you'll hear crappy cheap downpipe/cat noise instead
of that V6 purr.

Either get them to weld in a new flex joint (if the cat substrate itself is
still good), or get a genuine cat, either new from your Audi dealer, or a
good second hand one from a specialist Audi breaker's yard.

Just my two cents.

James
