Seems like the week for burnt starters. Mine happened Saturday. I did hear strange noises and after 10 miles I smelled something burning. My ignition switch does not return the key to the correct position and keeps the starter engaged. I will look for a third party mechanic to fix this, as the stealership is about 30 miles away.

heard like a bearing, it was the starter still engaged ).

The problem is I am on my 3rd igniton switch from Autohaus. Not their fault,
it is just a cra aftermarket part, you can even get them off ebay cheap.
Mine died AGAIN this weekend with your symptoms. All I could do was after
the car was running , turn the key off and on really quickly so the engine
keeps running. The electricals then work.

I now always put the blower on full blast before staring the car , if the
blower doesn't come on , I know something is wong. Looks like I will be
paying the stealership for this item as it is just becoming a pain.

I'd put money on it being your ignition switch. BTDT. And yes,
with the switch stuck on the "start" position, you may have
fried your starter. BTDT2.

I don't know about the 90 series, but on my '94 100 (v6,
fwd, automatic), the mechanic needed to lower half the
subframe to get access.
