Hi guys,
Some of you will recall I bought a Quattro just before Xmas and was having a
few issues with it. Just an update, and a general V6 question...
First the general V6 question: does anyone know if these cars have dual-mass
flywheels, or just normal flywheels? The maintenance manual says it could be
both, and I'm darned if I can remember which it was on my FWD when we had
the engine out! Is there any way to tell without getting the clutch off? The
parts manual lists the same flywheel for all these cars, but doesn't
indicate whether it's normal, or dual mass.
The car update: I took it into Audi to have the chassis alignment checked,
and it's fine - all points within 3mm of each other, which is well within
tolerance apparently. Although the rear quarter has definitely been
replaced, it's a decent job and there doesn't appear to be any other damage
- so all good!
My usual mechanic and I got the car up on his lift the other day and had a
really good look. It was pretty clear straight away why the handling is
dreadful: a lot of worn out bushes and mounts! Front wishbones and subframe
are particularly loose (nearly half an inch movement at the wheels when he
was prying the subframe!). Also, the shocks and springs all round need
replacing. Worn out gearbox and rear diff-mounts and all the bushes on the
upper rear wishbones too... etc, etc.
Anyway, it's only replacing rubber, so no real worries so far!
If anyone has any useful tips regarding the pulling out/in of any of the
bushings/subframe mounts, etc. I'd be grateful - a lot to do so any time
saved is a good thing!!
Cheers,
James
