Braided electrical line is cheap and fairly easy to find -- most  
shops that wind alternators in-house will have it readily available  
and be able to fab up a replacement.

Even if you can't find a local fabricator to make one, like Tom said,  
you can probably revamp the existing one. I would suggest placing the  
replacement in some form of heat-shrink tubing or other protector to  
keep it from corroding as fast again in the northern salt roads...
