Hi Wintre,
You have two sensors around that area. It depends exactly where it is. The crank position sensor (sometimes referred to as the 'ignition firing point sender') sits where you have described and will definitely cause a no-start condition - this happened to me last year. The engine speed sensor, as far as I was aware, sits on the gearbox and feeds the rev counter and ecu. I don't know if this would cause a no-start or not. You really need to pull the fault codes. If you can do this, the specific fault code will tell us which sensor is at fault and we can give you further instructions from there. Without those, we're working in the dark to an extent.
Cheers,
James

Members thank you ever so much for your assistance on my "Pick-Up" sensor problem. I
have since gathered that the sensor the electrician is telling me about is actualy the rev-
counter sensor (the device that hooks on the gearbox/block closer to the fly wheel).
Would it cause the car not to start if its dead?
Thanks for your continued understanding.
