Jon,

Haynes Repair Manual #96023 also covers your car. It is titled "VW Passat & Audi A4". It covers the A4 from 96 thru 01, with lots of paragraphs unique to the 12-valve engine in the 96. I think I got mine at Kragens. It's actually a surprisingly good manual.
