[V8] IC cluster (again)

Dave,
While I picked up the technician's kit, I think the tubes with swabs are
really all one needs. What follows is the recommendation that I posted to
the list back in September. Incidentally, I also at that time took the IC
apart and swabbed ProGold anywhere pins/plugs made contact. The amount of
oxidation removed from the pins that the coastal connectors plug into at the
back of the IC especially was incredible -- so those 1/8" swabs are a must
IMO.

As these instrument clusters get older they have a nasty habit of giving
false warnings, causing gauges to be intermittent, flash ridiculous trip
computer functions (OK, even more ridiculous). Oxidation of the contacts
appears to be the primary culprit, so...
For those who will (or need to again) clean up the contacts in your
Instrument cluster because of false readings, warnings, intermittent gauges,
I have found (thanks to Mr. Buchholtz's recommendation) a better solution
than Stabilant 22a (which I have used in the past with mixed results).
Caig Chemicals in Poway CA. I bought their Technicians Survival Kit (Item
SK-IN30) for $29.95, but found they have a few web specials and the
following (IMO) are just the ticket for dashboard contact cleaning/enhancing
at a great price:
Four tube sampler for $9.95 (Item SP-K2C CAIG Essentials) includes: DeoxIT,
ProGold, PreservIT, and CaiLube MCL Liquid --enough for lots of Audis.
(Deoxit and ProGold would be the ones to use)
Precision Foam Swabs (a MUST -- fit between the contact pins in the IC --
you won't believe how much oxidation is there): 1/8" x ½" x 2 ¾" (12 pk
Item SWPX-12 $7.75 / 50 pk Item SWPX-50 $18.95
Shipping is an additional $7.50 regardless how much you order.
No relation or vested interest (except to help others get rid of/reduce IC
gremlins).
