[V8] air bag modules in back bench

... your car probably has the airbag recall installed. I don't remember
where they mounted the replacement module, but I do know they removed the
modules under the back seat. You may want to ditch your mechanic in favor
of the dealer on this one. I'm pretty sure the connector you use to access
fault codes on the airbag is the one slipped right behind the console above
the throttle pedal ... so perhaps that's where the module is located ...
I'm not a fan of airbags myself ... I'll take the Procon-Ten the car has
over the bomb in the steering wheel any day ... but you may want to contact
the dealer on Audi's current party line on the longevity of the airbag
modules if you are that interested in having them function. I know that the
replacement interval was increased from 10 to 12 years ... which your 1990
car has already passed ... perhaps that interval has been increased again
... or you may well find that to truly make your airbag functional you may
need a new airbag module ... and if so, and you don't have a black steering
wheel, get ready to buy a new one of those too ... I understand that
replacement airbags are only available in black.
