... I think I used a similar method with the boots on my Fox ... it is SO
much easier to pull the inner CVJ!
The one issue that remains is the fact that you did apply some shear to the
clip, so it isn't clear how much more shear it will take to break that clip.
I admit the risk should be very small ... it is the job of the inner CVJ to
make sure any stretching and shrinking of the distance between the tranny
case and the front wheel is accommodated ... but if the clip sheared it
could mean the half shaft would disengage the hub ...
