[V8] Rear Main Seal

I got my RMS + plate from the dealer and after seeing the seal I am not surprised they tend to go bad.  It looks and feels like it is made of some sort of paper material.  Is this how all rear main seals are?  I would feel a lot better if it was a regular spring loaded rubber type seal.  Do any after market companies make a regular RMS for our car...BTDTs?  Not that I don't totally trust those German engineers:)
