[V8] ECU Lesson

Thanks all, and Keith spent some time on the phone setting me straight too -- as I originally thought (and as the manual goes), ECM and ECU are generally interchangeable terms and refers to the module under the driver's side dash .  Neither is under the rear seat.  That's the anti-lock module and unrelated to the diagnostic system (and has not been relocated to behind the radio console).

I don't know how I came to believe that ABS box was the ECU, but I'm over it now.  Amazing I've been able to find/fix previous problems!

Also, word around the water cooler is that the 5-speed ECU is different from an auto version (different cams = different programming).  I'll be tearing into the wet, IA-chipped ECU for further inspection, but have a replacement unit coming.  After testing and chip-swapping, it'll get a plastic bag wrapper.  And some black RTV over a suspicious-looking gap in the windshield gasket.
